Imfolozi was proclaimed a reserve in 1895. Imfolozi together with Hluhluwe cover 96 000 ha and the reserve contains a large diversity of fauna and flora. The reserve is the home of the White Rhino as a result of “Operation Rhino” in the 1950s and 60s. Imfolozi offers great encounters with wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Guests can enjoy the adventure and relaxation in these beautiful scenic surroundings.
Imfolozi, the southern component of the park lies west of the town of Mtubatuba. The region is generally hot in summer, and mild to cool in winter, although cold spells do occur.
Game viewing is the prime attraction. Viewing hides overlook pans and waterholes enabling visitors to see animals at close range. Larger mammals to be seen include buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, elephant, and large numbers of impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, nyala, kudu, bushbuck, steenbuck, duiker, warthog, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyaena and jackal. In excess of 300 species of birds have been recorded.
Imfolozi is popular for its Wilderness Trails which take you through the savannah inhabited by the big five. These trails allow guests to really feel Africa.
Room Description at :
- 2 x 7-bed cottage. Self-contained 3-bedroomed cottages. Self-catering with a cook on hand to prepare food supplied by guests.
- 6 x 5-bed chalet. 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and lounge/diningroom. Self-catering.
- 12 x 2-bed chalets. Bathroom and kitchenette.
- 13 x 2-bed Safari Tents – En-suite bathroom, kitchen and dining area connected via a board walk.
- 2 x 4-bed Safari Tents – En-suite bathroom, kitchen and dining area connected via a board walk.
Safaris Tents have a room with en-suite bathroom. An optional third bed is available in each tent on request. Each unit has a verandah and is electrified. A fully equipped kitchen and dining area is connected to each tent by a wooden boardwalk. Barbecue facilities are available. These units are self-catering and are serviced daily.
Mpila Camp is not fenced; guest are advised to stay within the parameters of their units after sunset.
This secluded lodge sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Self Catering. A cook is in attendance. Own food to be supplied.
Gqoyeni Bush Lodge
Gqoyeni Bush Lodge offers excellent game viewing opportunities in an ideal setting.
4 x 2 bed units, each with individual showers and toilets, are linked by wooden walkways to a central living area. A cook is available to prepare food supplied by guests, and a field ranger conducts walks into the surrounding bushveld.
Hlatikulu Bush Lodge
Hlatikulu Bush Lodge is situated in the heart of the park and provides excellent opportunities for walks.
4 x 2-bed units, each with individual showers and toilets, are linked by wooden walkways to a central living area. A cook is available to prepare food supplied by guests, and a field ranger conducts walks into the surrounding bushveld.

Facilities: Tented safari camp, wilderness trails, day and night game drives. The camps are electrically lit from 7:00 – 22:00 daily.
Shop: Petrol is available and curios, cool drinks and camera film can be purchased from the Mpila Camp Shop, but no provisions or restaurant facilities are provided.
Special Precautions: Imfolozi is in a low risk malaria area and special precautions are necessary; please consult your doctor.

The nearest town which has a full range of services is Mtubatuba, which is 48 kilometres away.
Pets are not permitted into the reserve.
